A Message from Our Department Head to Prospective Students
Dear Students,
I warmly welcome you to the Industrial Engineering Department at Abdullah Gül University. Our department embraces and advances the university’s vision of being a "third-generation university"—one that is innovative, entrepreneurial, and socially responsible. Today’s world is rapidly evolving under the influence of concepts such as Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, big data, and digital transformation. In this dynamic environment, industrial engineers play a key role in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of systems by integrating technology with the human factor.
Industrial engineering is gaining importance not only in the manufacturing sector but also in diverse fields such as healthcare, logistics, finance, and energy. For example, in a hospital in the U.S., a cancer patient can undergo chemotherapy with fewer side effects thanks to an algorithm that optimizes medication timing. That algorithm wasn’t created by a doctor—but by an industrial engineer.
At NASA, astronauts preparing for space missions work with a system that optimizes time management and task allocation during simulations. Behind this system is an industrial engineer. Whether it's minimizing morning flight delays at an airport through automated baggage handling, or improving factory operations with lean manufacturing, industrial engineers are there—often behind the scenes—making things work better.
In the future, the demand for industrial engineers will continue to grow, particularly in areas involving efficient resource use, sustainability, and innovation. The wide range of sectors in which our graduates work—from hospitals to tech companies, factories to space agencies—reflects the broad impact of this field.
At AGU, our vision is to become a nationally and internationally leading department in industrial engineering education and research. Our mission is to cultivate innovative and responsible engineers who combine theory with practice to create value for society and industry. We are committed to equipping our students with up-to-date knowledge, practical skills, and strong ethical values.
Our educational approach is student-centered and practice-oriented. Our modern curriculum includes fundamental topics such as mathematical modeling, optimization, simulation, and data analytics, as well as emerging areas like engineering management, sustainability, and innovation. As the language of instruction is English and our university has strong international ties, our students gain a global perspective. Through exchange programs such as Erasmus and international internships, students can broaden their horizons by experiencing different cultures. Moreover, lab work, technical visits, and industry-collaborative project courses offer opportunities to engage with real-world problems. These experiences help students develop essential teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.
From their first year, students in AGU Industrial Engineering are immersed in project-based learning. They can participate in faculty-led research or bring their own ideas to life, enhancing their research capabilities. Senior design projects and internships conducted in partnership with industry prepare our students for professional life before graduation. These hands-on experiences allow them to apply their critical thinking and problem-solving skills and bridge the gap between theory and practice.
Our graduates are equipped with analytical thinking abilities, technological competence, a human-centered mindset, and ethical values—making them well-rounded engineers. They find employment across a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, services, logistics, and finance. Many of our alumni pursue successful careers in roles such as process improvement, supply chain management, quality control, and business development in both national and international companies. Others continue their academic journey through graduate studies or start their own ventures as entrepreneurs. Wherever they go, they make meaningful contributions by improving efficiency, developing innovative solutions, and using resources effectively.
Dear students, you are our top priority. During your time here, you will have countless opportunities to grow and realize your full potential. Beyond what you learn in the classroom, I encourage you to actively participate in projects, student clubs, and extracurricular activities. With a curious, inquisitive, and entrepreneurial mindset, I have no doubt that you will become the leading engineers of tomorrow. Please know that we are always here to support you in every step of your academic and personal development.
