Double Major Program at Abdullah Gül University
Purpose of the Program
The Double Major Program at Abdullah Gül University (AGU) enables successful undergraduate students to pursue a second bachelor’s degree in another discipline while continuing their primary major. This opportunity allows them to gain interdisciplinary expertise and expand their academic and career prospects.
Program Structure
- The double major is a secondary undergraduate program pursued alongside the primary major.
- It is designed by the relevant department, approved by the Faculty Board, and finalized by the University Senate.
- The curriculum comprises at least 12 additional courses (equivalent to 60 ECTS credits) that are not included in the primary major.
- Some courses may overlap between the two programs, but they are counted only once in the total credit calculation.
Application Requirements
Students must fulfil the conditions to be eligible to apply, as such:
- Academic Performance: Students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.20 and must not have received a grade lower than C or S in any completed course.
- Class Rank: Must be in the top 20% of the class or have a university entrance score above the minimum threshold set for the double major program.
- Timing: Applications must be submitted between the 3rd and 5th semesters.
- The relevant department may announce further eligibility criteria.
- Applications must be submitted to the Student Affairs Office (ÖİDB) within the announced dates of the academic calendar.
Application and Evaluation Process
- Students can apply to more than one program but can only enroll in one double major and optionally one minor program.
- Applications are reviewed first by the Student Affairs Office and then by the related faculty.
- Accepted students must register in the next semester.
- Previous relevant courses can be counted towards the double major upon faculty approval.
Graduation and Academic Rules
- Students receive a separate transcript and diploma for the double major program.
- Graduation from the double major is only possible after completing the primary major.
- After graduating from the primary program students are given up to two semesters to complete the double major.
- Academic performance in the double major does not affect the GPA or success status of the primary major.
- Internship and elective course requirements are arranged by both departments.
Withdrawal or Program Change
Students may withdraw from the double major program at any time. They can apply to another double major or minor program if eligible. If a student becomes inactive or fails to meet the academic requirements of the primal major, they will be automatically withdrawn from the double major program.
Program Coordinator
Each department that offers a double major program appoints a Program Coordinator who supports students, facilitates communication with academic advisors, and monitors the academic progress of double major students.
Closing Remarks
- The double major program offers an excellent opportunity for high-achieving students to explore an additional field of study.
- Students are encouraged to plan their course schedules carefully and maintain strong academic performance in both programs.
- Additional information, including deadlines and quotas, will be announced by the Student Affairs Office (ÖİDB).
