Dear Youth,
You have left behind a tough marathon and you will soon make one of the most important decisions of your life. Unfortunately, 31% of Turkish students who have applied in an undergraduate program are retaking the University Entrance Exam and only 30% of graduates practice their own profession. In this context, I would like to emphasize that when you make your decision, it is very critical that you choose a profession suitable for your personality.
AGU Industrial Engineering Department (IE) started to accept undergraduate students in 2013 and opened the graduate program (master and doctorate) in 2014. Our department accepts 50 undergraduate students from Turkey for each academic year. The quota is 30 students for 2017 and 20 students for between 2013-2016.
There are currently 140 students in the undergraduate program and 15 students registered for graduate programs. We also accept international applications to undergraduate programs for up to 12 students. There are 8 international undergraduate students and 1 international student in the graduate program.
Our academic staff consists of 5 full-time and 2 part-time faculty members and 8 research assistants. The number of students per faculty member is 10,8. Our faculty members have at least 2 years of academic work experience in the USA and European universities. We also have 4 Ph.D. candidates who are continuing doctorate programs in UK universities, and they will attend our academic staff in 2020-2021. We are still searching for suitable and qualified new academics for strengthening our academic structure.
In the Industrial Engineering Department, a project-oriented and university-industry cooperation based curriculum is implemented to ensure that our students can practice what they have learned in the University and gain real-life experience before graduation. In this context, our students are experiencing the industrial engineering profession for at least 22 weeks in the industry with 3 different internship programs. Almost all courses offered by the department are oriented with Industrial Engineering projects and also some courses are taught in factories accompanied by professional engineers. Senior students are taking place in 1-year long Industrial Engineering projects with Turkey’s well-known big companies. In 2018, we graduated our first students who completed senior projects in ASELSAN, FNSS, Turkcell, and DİTAŞ. 3 out of 4 senior projects are funded by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBİTAK) and 1 out of 4 of our senior projects is one of the finalists in the annual best senior project competition of National Operations Research and Industrial Engineering (ORIE) Congress. These achievements of our first graduates are concrete indicators of our effective teaching mechanism and academic strength.
As the AGU Industrial Engineering department, we educate the industrial engineers of the future. We provide our students with both theoretical and practical competence in the fundamental areas such as optimization, simulation, probability/statistics, machine learning, decision/risk analysis, and computer programming, so they can use them in all public and private sectors and the academy. We also offer the opportunity to specialize in areas such as energy, finance, production, disaster management, and logistics. We are trying to equip our graduates not only academically, but also with the social and individual skills, they will need in the business world and the academic world.
If you want to push your limits, to be different and to make a difference, to overcome difficulties, to contribute to the society in which you live, to have a quality university education in the family atmosphere, we invite you to AGÜ Industrial Engineering family.
