An Industry-Oriented Student Projects Fair was organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering at Abdullah Gül University (AGU). Over the past three years, Industrial Engineering students who have developed solutions to real problems for more than 40 companies through over a hundred projects showcased 24 different projects at the fair.
Held at the Sümer Campus Exhibition Area, the fair featured poster presentations of projects prepared within courses such as Mathematical Modeling, Decision and Risk Analysis, System Simulation, Disaster Management Logistics, Sustainable Energy Systems, and Production and Service Systems Management, taught during the Fall semester of the 2017-2018 academic year.
The fair was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering Prof. Dr. İbrahim Akgün, representatives from the business and industrial sectors, faculty members, and students.
Starting with a cocktail and speeches, the fair gave students the opportunity to introduce their projects to fellow students and guests through their posters. In his opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities and the industry/business world.
Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering Prof. Dr. İbrahim Akgün stated that they have established various mechanisms to bring students together with the business and industrial sectors as much as possible, and conducting projects related to real-life problems in courses is one of these mechanisms.
Akgün also highlighted that course projects significantly contribute to the development of both academic and social skills of students and mentioned the valuable support they have received from employers in Kayseri.
He added that some courses are entirely held at companies, citing that last year the simulation course took place at Yataş and this year the entire Process Analysis course was conducted at Başyazıcıoğlu Textile.
In addition to course projects, Akgün noted that the program is supported by three mandatory summer internships totaling six months, as well as annual graduation projects carried out at companies.
At the fair, students presented their projects through poster sessions and explained them to visitors.
