In Which Sectors and Departments Do Industrial Engineers Work?
It is possible to observe the diversity of industrial engineers’ fields of work through various sources. For example, Wikipedia mentions 18 different areas related to industrial engineering, including Financial Engineering, Project Management, Cost Engineering, Quality Engineering, Operations Research/Management Science, Logistics, Engineering Management, Ergonomics, Consulting, Safety Engineering, Accounting, and Facility Management (see [4]).
In a study conducted by Kariyer.net in Turkey, the sectors in which industrial engineers work were categorized into 20 groups, as shown in Table 1, and the departments into 13 categories, as shown in Table 2. According to Table 1, industrial engineers are employed in a wide range of sectors, from energy and healthcare to finance and information technologies. These areas can be further diversified or expanded. Table 2 shows that industrial engineers can work in all departments of a business.
