What kind of education do industrial engineers take?

Industrial engineers receive an education that integrates both engineering and business. This education can be designed in many different ways depending on the courses and contents of the engineering and business fields. However, in almost all programs, basic courses such as probability, statistics, optimization, decision and risk analysis, simulation, operations research, business/process analysis, accounting, cost analysis, economics, computer science, and programming are taught. In recent years, occupational health and safety, technology/innovation management and entrepreneurship issues have also entered into the fields of industrial engineering and accordingly have begun to take place in industrial engineering programs.

Industrial engineers can specialize in specific areas with industry-oriented courses. For example, an industrial engineer can specialize in many different areas such as energy, health, or logistics. However, a successful industrial engineer can write code like a computer engineer; make statistical analyzes like a statistician; work as a management consultant. Industrial engineering programs largely overlap with programs such as Systems Engineering, Management Engineering, Operations Research, Decision Science, Engineering Management, and Management Science. Therefore, industrial engineers are also employed in these areas.
