Could IEs be Senior Executives?
An industrial engineer has the opportunity to pursue a career in any industry that is relevant to his or her interests and abilities, and even reach his career as senior executive. In 2011, according to a survey conducted with 183 CEOs and general managers, 52% of CEOs in Turkey are engineering background and 20%s are business background. Industrial and mechanical engineering are the leading figures with a rate of 31%. It is possible to say that industrial engineers are predominant, except for some fields [1]. Some of examples; Former General Manager of Turkcell and Unilever, CEO of Microsoft Turkey, Marks & Spencer, ETI and Vice Chairman of the Central Bank, are industrial engineering backgrounds. Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple, is an industrial engineer.
